Malia brings a wealth of experience in community engagement, leadership, and mental health advocacy. Prior to becoming a Licensed Social Worker, Malia worked in corporate, education, and non profit sectors. While working for Dallas Independent School District in Texas, Malia led the adoption of a new software program to recruit, manage, and report volunteer hours. In the first year of adoption the volunteer program grew from 8,000 to over 27,000 active volunteers. She believes in the power and positive influence volunteers can have on an organization.
Malia understands the challenges our veterans face when they come from service. She comes from a long line of veterans who have served in multiple branches and multiple conflicts, and her son is currently a first responder in Florida.
Malia’s focus as a Social Worker includes Trauma Recovery, Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Awareness. Her passion and experience for empowering individuals, increasing resilience skills, reducing desperation and increasing hope align seamlessly with This Able Veteran’s mission.
As Deputy Executive Director, Malia will be instrumental in enhancing our programs, expanding outreach efforts, and strengthening community partnerships. As our Mental Health Professional she will work directly with the veterans selected for our program during their Trauma Resiliency Program and with our graduates during their ongoing Refresher events.
