William Sherwood is a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and received his Juris
Doctor degree from St. Louis University in 1977. Mr. Sherwood has actively practiced in the field
of health law since 1983, has over 47 years of legal and healthcare experience. Bill served on a
number of not-for-profit corporation Boards and organizations. Bill served as the General Counsel
for Southern Illinois Healthcare for over 20 years, was an Adjunct Professor at the SIU School of
Law (2006 to 2014) and is involved in many community activities.
Bill resides in Carbondale with his wife, Joan, and they are the parents of five children. Two of
their children reside in Carterville and serve the regional community; Sean is a Carbondale
firefighter and Daniel is a Physician’s Assistant at SIH.
